Web Design Summer Program Live Online

NextGen has award-winning web textbooks, teachers, and resources. In this program, students will be taught how to build and design the front and back end of websites. This course is a great introduction to design and coding because HTML/CSS is one of the easiest coding languages to learn. This course then progresses into a more advanced language in JavaScript. Furthermore, students will be introduced to Sketch, a designed tool for Mac OS. This course will test both the creative side and technical side of a student's brain.

This course will show a student the processes of creating a website from scratch. The course will start by introducing students to Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). This is a standard language that allows coders to tag text files, to choose fonts, colors, graphics, images, and more onto websites.

This course will cover the design of websites, which includes learning CSS & Sketch. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets and it is a style language used in conjunction with HTML for page layouts, colors, and fonts. Sketch is a digital design application that can be used for user interface design for web, mobile, and infographics. Finally, students will be introduced to JavaScript, which is the most used programming language in the world! This allows students to make the websites dynamic. In conclusion, students should think of HTML as learning how to structure the silhouette of the websites, CSS/Sketch as the style and design of the site, and finally the JavaScript as a final feature to make your website more appealing and active. Once all of these parts come together, students will see the power of all these languages and tools! Students should leave the class with a beautiful, reactive website.

Our web development course is designed mainly for high-school students but college students are welcomed as well!

This course is a great introductory to the world of programming, computer science, and design. This class applies to all students with many different fields of interest because of the number of languages and skills taught in this 2-week camp. This course is also great for students with business ideas or looking to gain technical skills for freelance jobs. Are there any prerequisites for the Web Dev course?

This course has no math or coding pre-requisites, but students must be comfortable with basic computer skills and have a desire to learn at an advanced level.

Web Dev Course Detailed Overview

This course combines three different courses into one: Sketch, Web Design, Web Development. The first section of the course will cover web coding, while the second part cover design techniques. The course will culminate in advanced web coding principles.

The first part of this course will cover HTML syntaxes such as headers, paragraphs, body, titles, and meta tags. This class will move towards learning how to input images and organically move into CSS. Students will be introduced to the class system in CSS as well as CSS tags such as div, background-color, borders, and more. This component of the course will finish with students using developer tools as well as creating a fluid layout on their site.

The second part of the course will be focused on design. The course will focus primarily on Sketch but will teach more advanced topics within CSS. Students will learn how to create new files, insert photos, insert vector graphics, create symbols, and edit text styles.

Finally, the course will move on to JavaScript. This will start with the fundamentals of the language but quickly move into the more advanced coding aspects. This course will teach students how to use plug-ins to increase the usability of their site.
