Throughout NextGen’s coding intensive I’ve thoroughly improved my problem-solving abilities and developed a strong foundation in computer science. The course was comprehensive and engaging and I definitely feel as though the skills I’ve gained have given me a leg in the classroom and job arena. I’d definitely recommend this course to anyone considering pursuing computer programming at a high level.

I really enjoyed the goal-oriented nature of the course. Instead of only learning about the theory behind computing, we got a chance to apply what was being taught by writing code and putting everything together to build something practical. Also, we covered a wide range of topics aside from just programming like a little bit of computer hardware, files & file formats, and HTML. After taking this class, I feel like there are so many more possibilities and applications of computer science than I originally thought. Overall, I was really impressed with how well-designed the course was.

This program is NextGen’s marquee program for summer 2019. This course will be both academically rigorous and extraordinarily fun! As industry and educational experts, we recommend this course to all of our students who can't seem to decide which course to take. This course is our preferred offering for 4 reasons:
One of a kind: We are the only coding program in New York City that offers a certificate that includes coding, design, and development. Other companies have two-week programs taught by inexperienced undergraduates, but we offer a full-length summer camp that includes three different courses, three excellent and experienced instructors, and countless activity-based lessons that are proven to be a blast! Taking this distinguished course will show colleges that your student is dedicated to pursuing their goals and serious about mastering advanced subjects.
Small Class + Program: We keep our classes and our overall program size distinctly small. We believe in small group sizes for three reasons: quality control, relationship building, and targeted learning. Having only 20 students in our New York City program enables us to ensure that teachers are delivering every lesson effectively. On top of that, students learn the most when they have a personal connection with teachers and peers, which can only be accomplished with small class sizes. Finally, our 8:1 student to teacher ratio means that students are consistently given undivided attention in a student-driven classroom that moves at their own pace.
Learn 5 languages in 7 weeks: Our program teaches coding using an immersive, activity-based curriculum, which allows students to learn, practice, and master concepts faster. Students in this program will become fluent in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Swift, and C++. Additionally, students will learn technical design skills in Sketch and Xcode as well as how to code the back-end of websites using Ruby & Ruby on Rails. Beyond being able to apply each of these skills to future real-world projects, students can list them on their resume and on their college application to maximize their marketability for future opportunities.
Academic Advancement: NextGen understands fun, but we also understand that parents (and even the students themselves!) want students to be productive over their summer break. This course strikes the perfect balance, as the students will be able to build, create and have fun while learning one of the most important skills in the world today, coding! The skills we teach enable students to excel in math and computer science classes in high school, and likely place out of many introductory college courses, which will ultimately allow them to advance faster in their academic career!
Great Location: NextGen's classes are held at 594 Broadway in Soho. Our location is central to New York City's world of design and is surrounded by access to subways. Additionally, we provide every student with a state-of-the-art computer with all necessary programs pre-installed. Our space is located in a doorman building with 24-hour security.
Our Summer Code & Development Certificate Program is designed primarily for high school students, but college students are welcomed as well!
This course is a great introduction to the world of programming, computer science, and design. Anyone who is interested in business, technology, entrepreneurship, journalism, design, UX, UI, and many other jobs would benefit from this curriculum. This course is also perfect for students with business ideas or those who are looking to gain technical skills that can be used for freelance. Web, App, and Game development are amazing and versatile skills that students can use to make their ideas a reality! On top of the technical skills we teach, students will learn important computational thinking principles associated with design and coding that will help them to be successful in any career field.
This course has no math or coding pre-requisites, but students must be comfortable with basic computer skills and have a desire to learn at an advanced level.
This program is great for students who are interested in exploring the fields of design, coding, and digital art. This is also a great program for younger students, who typically benefit from the instant gratification they'll feel as they instantly see the product that they've created with their code. The program runs for the first 7 weeks of the summer and is divided into three sections: Web Development, App Development, and Back-End Web Development.
The first section of the program, App Development, teaches students how to build apps using Swift and X-code. Students are able to create two different mobile applications within the first week! This course is a great place to start for students because they'll learn foundational computer science topics while experiencing the excitement of creating their own unique app!
The second part of the program is Web Development, which is our award-winning course taught by our award-winning instructor. NextGen's web development course was voted the top course by Newsweek & SwitchUp. This course will teach students how to code & design web pages to make them user-friendly and interactive.
In the third and final section, students learn how to design the back-end of websites using Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Students will build websites that will be able to access databases, store information, and much more!
At the end of the program, students will receive a Coding & Development Certificate and will walk away with an extensive portfolio that includes websites and applications.
